1. Rinse After Meals
● Remove your dentures after eating.
● Rinse them under warm, running water.
● Wash away any food particles.
Tip: do this over a sink filled with water or a folded towel, so they have a soft landing if you happen to drop them.
2. Daily Cleaning
Flexible dentures are made from a specialised nylon material, so standard over the counter denture tablets can be too abrasive for them.
● Soak them in a specialised cleaner such as Val-Clean® for 10 to 15 minutes daily.
● For heavier staining, they can soak overnight up to three times a week.
● Rinse with fresh, cool water before placing them back in your mouth.
3. Professional Whitening
● Toothpaste contains fine abrasive particles that can scratch the surface of flexible dentures.
● Scratches can dull the surface and give bacteria somewhere to gather.
● Use a soft cloth instead to gently wipe away loose debris.
4. Avoid Extreme Heat
● Don't use boiling water.
● Keep them away from microwaves and dishwashers.
● High heat can warp the flexible material and affect how well they fit.
5. Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Keep dentures away from bleach, whitening products, household cleaners, and alcohol based mouthwashes, as these can damage the material and cause discolouration.
6. Remove Before Bed
● Take your dentures out before sleeping, so your gums get a chance to rest.
● Keep them submerged in plain water or your soaking solution when they're not in your mouth, so they don't dry out and lose their shape.
